Product Description The Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor detects your baby's slightest movements, even while she sleeps. While it may seem that your baby is perfectly still when she is sleeping, she really isn't. An alarm will sound alerting you to check your baby only if she becomes absolutely still for 20 seconds and no movement whatsoever is detected. The under-the-mattress Sensor Pad detects your baby's slightest movements. If your baby goes absolutely still for 20 seconds, the Sensor Pad sends a signal to the Nursery Unit which sounds an alarm alerting you to check your baby. If you are out of the baby's room, the portable Parents' Unit (Sound Monitor) will pick up the alarm as well as other nursery sounds. In addition, the Nursery Unit has an optional "tic" feature. If the Sensor Pad senses movement, the Nursery Unit will continuously tick. If it doesn't, the ticking will stop. Your crib must have a hard flat surface. If it does not, just place a piece of masonite or a board under the mattress and place the Sensor Pad on top of the masonite and under the mattress. Be sure to place the correct side of the Sensor Pad facing up. The Angelcare Movement Sensor will give you the peace of mind you won't get from just a sound monitor or even a video monitor. And, this monitor is an excellent value. It is 2 monitors in 1 so you don't have to purchase a sound monitor. The Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor includes an under-the-mattress Sensor Pad, a Nursery Unit, a Parents' Unit (sound monitor) and 2 AC adapters. It can also operate with 8 AAA batteries (not included).

LOVE this monitor! July 6, 2010 LW I love Angelcare movement monitor! It gives me piece of mind that my baby is breathing and I can hear him when he wakes up. It works great when we go to visit the grandparents and just have the sound part of the monitor. The kids go to bed and we can stay up and visit and can hear them if they wake up. It is easy to use, small and compact. It's great that it takes batteries as well. I highly recommend this item if you're looking for a monitor. I had one time a false alarm went off, the reason was that over time the part that goes under the mattress moved and wasn't able to "feel" the baby breathing. Totally a false alarm.
Love it April 10, 2010 S. Soileau (Lafayette LA) This is one product every new parent should have on their registry. It allows a parent to get a more restful sleep knowing the product is monitoring the baby's breathing.
Is this monitor as reliable when the head of the mattress is elevated? November 29, 2009 Korinna L. Braun We used this monitor with our son 2 years ago and absolutely loved it! It offered a peace of mind that allowed us to sleep well every night! It actually went off twice and alarmed him into breathing again! Now I have a question about it though. Our newborn baby daughter has severe reflux that requires us to elevate the head of her mattress to a 40 degree angle. Will this monitor still be as effective when we do that, and if so, what is the best method to do this?
Great product, but would not recommend the monitor by itself November 6, 2009 kclay242003 The angelcare movement sensor part of this product is what everyone will buy it for, and it worked great. The audio monitor itself wasn't so hot. It gave a lot of static and I was able to hear other people at night - not so great. Really freaked me out to hear another baby crying on the monitor only to find it wasn't mine. We stopped using it once our daughter moved around the crib more and purchased a better monitor.
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Great for first-time parents especially! October 14, 2009 Melissa Williams (Arizona) Are you afraid of someone kidnapping your baby in the night?(j/k) But seriously, do you ever find yourself wondering if your newborn is still breathing in the middle of the night? Are you about to give birth to your first child, and you are scared of SIDS? Imagine if you could hook your baby up to a breathing monitor so you would know that she was breathing at all times.
Well I know that when I first had my daughter, I would wake up lots of times in the middle of the night and listen extra closely to hear if she was still breathing. They sleep so still they don't look like they're breathing! For that reason I would take this sound/breathing/motion monitor over a sound/video monitor any day! It's perfectly normal for a mom to be paranoid about these things. I really feel that if I didn't have the Angelcare baby monitor, I would not have slept at all until my daughter turned six months or so and I got over it a little. (I was still partly paranoid until she hit the official one year mark.) I think it was totally worth the extra money for the peace of mind that allowed me to sleep at night. We moms need all the sleep we can get! Especially in the beginning. With this monitor I could hear every teeny tiny little breath she took, crystal clear. If you don't want to be able to hear your baby that well, then turn down the volume and you can still hear if they cry or if the motion sensor alarm goes off. You can choose to do sound only, or sound + motion, and you can choose whether or not it makes a little "tic" noise every time the baby moves/breathes. I had the "tic" on at first but it got annoying so I turned that feature off.
It was reasonably easy to set up. The motion sensor pad goes under the mattress. You might have to adjust the sensitivity of the motion-sensor at first, which is as easy as turning a little dial and waiting 20 seconds to hear if it worked or not. You might have to put a thin board under the motion sensor pad to help support it, we used stiff cardboard and that worked just fine.
As an added bonus, if your mom or MIL is in town and she scoops up the baby before you get up in the morning, the motion sensor will know there is not a breathing child in the crib and it will go off! Like a car alarm for your baby! For added fun, DO NOT WARN THE GRANDMAS OF THIS FEATURE! =D (But DO make sure the babysitter is well aware of how the baby motion sensor works and all that!)
When your baby gets old enough to squirm her way into the far corners of her crib at night, the motion sensor will not be able to detect her very well anymore, and by then you can stop using the motion sensor part of the set. Note: crib wedges may reduce the ability for it to feel your baby's breathing, so you will have to adjust it accordingly by moving it or adjusting the sensitivity. A wedge might also cause your baby to roll to the end of the crib where the motion sensor won't feel her.
Newborns will stop breathing for up to 20 seconds at a time, this is very normal. There were a couple times the alarm went off and I really think the noise startled her just enough to get her to breathe again. The alarm is not as loud in the baby's room as it is on the parent's receiver, but your baby can hear a milder version of the alarm. With my baby it startled her just enough to get her to breathe, but it did NOT wake her up, which I thought was very cool.
I know the odds of SIDS is really slim, but who wants to take that chance? I didn't. I really think the extra money was WELL SPENT!!! For the peace of mind it gave me so I could sleep at night, and for the added insurance of my baby's life. My baby is the most precious thing I have, and this monitor helped me know for sure she was safe in the other room. Odds are that she would not have died of SIDS with a cheapo monitor either, but I know I would not have gotten ANY sleep for the first few months without this monitor.
You get what you pay for. If you think you want a cheapo monitor, I own one of those too (it was total crap) and I reviewed it also. If you are a little paranoid about your baby's safety and SIDS and all that, if you want to hear your baby's sweet sleeping breath at night, GET THE ANGELCARE!
